KU vs. Louisiana Tech
KU rolls over LTU, 29-0
After a slow start, the Kansas Jayhawks moved to a perfect 2-0 by knocking off Louisiana Tech 29-0.
Candidates for Game balls
¢ Todd Reesing side-stepped and back-stepped the rush repeatedly and had the magic touch, completing 32 of 38 passes for 412 yards and three touchdowns.
¢ Dezmon Briscoe caught seven passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
¢ Daymond Patterson turned eight receptions into 130 yards and two touchdowns.
¢ Kerry Meier caught nine balls for 71 yards.
Candidates for Gassers
¢ Jacob Branstetter missed an extra point, tainting a night in which he made all three field-goal attempts.
¢ Mike Rivera dropped an interception. OK, so he did play a role in a shutout, but somebody has to run gassers or a team can get soft.

Game balls only go to offense? The D just threw a shutout. Stucke deserves two for not giving up on the 78 yd run, but then also for having a TFL on the next play.As for Gassers, uhhh, how about Sharp and Crawford? From Mangino's half-time comments, it sounds like at least parts of the O-line is a candidate for gassers as well, although it was cool to see Hatch being one of the first to congratulate Briscoe in the end zone after the 48 ydarder.

Agree with Dagger. Stuckey is a game ball candidate. How bout Angus who made them defend the run and opened up the passing game even more? Guy plays a half and gets 84 yards. Sharp and Crawford are definitely gassers this game as opposed to Rivera.

I think the student section should get a gasser. Their classless cheer after eack KU kickoff has gone on long enough. As an alum, I'm embarassed by it. I'm puzzled why no one at the University, or at the Journal-World, takes this on. If the crowd gets flagged for a 15 yard unsportsmanlike it should stop it pretty quick.

I agree that chant makes our school look like the classless students at K-State. Knock it off, officials should flag the team everytime and that will shut them up. And I'm kind of tired of the "kickoff keys" We are not in 1990 anymore. Jump up and down like a basketball tip-off. Get the place loud, and not jingling.

Kids will be kids when it comes to tasteless cheers. Like you and I didn't say anything tasteless when we were in college. Right! At least the student section makes NOISE. I realize most KU fans are NEW to the football scene, but the rest of the crowd--other than the students--have NO idea when or how to get loud. It might take several years for the new football fans to get it. I say let the students continue to lead the way in creating a real football atmosphere. This ain't the library!Hint: When the opponent has driven the ball all the way down the field and they are inside the 20, it MIGHT be a good time to make some noise. That's just for starters.

KU, I partially agree with you but that chant after each kickoff has to go. There has got to be something else to say after each kickoff. I'd rather everyone shakes their keys than listen to what they are saying. The student section does get very loud. that is good.It seemed to me, and maybe I'm wrong, but I think at halftime more students left the game than the rest of the crowd. It rained. Waaaaaaaa! It rained all day so there is no reason to think it wasn't going to rain during the game. Bring some rain gear and deal with it. I know you can't pick up on girls as well when you are wearing a poncho but at least you won't get wet and you can stay for the entire game. Leaving early does not make true football fans.

Right on rolo. It seems to me many kids today are, using an 80's term, wussies. The heck with rain gear or jackets. Back in the day we took our shirts off when it rained and sometimes when it snowed. And we always stayed until the end of the game...at both football and b-ball. I remember whole sections of students pelting those leaving early with plastic cups...awesome. And at a couple of KU b-ball in the 80's, I remember fans booing and throwing stuff at fans that left early as well. I have to qualify this by stating that we WERE the hard core student fans and there were much smaller crowds (we kinda sucked back then in football). We might be getting better attendance at games, but that does NOT mean you are getting better fans.I have been out of state for the past two years so I am not aware of this particular chant. I do NOT want us to become Antler-type MO fans or Redneck KSU fans. If it is crap, which several of you are saying, it needs to stop. The band might be able to help with this change.

The chant starts right after we kick off. It goes like this."Rip his f...ing head off"You can add the missing letters at your leisure.

That is an Antler-like statement. Let's get real and show some class. Our fans and students are generally smart enough to think of something more intelligent. Someone connected with our band needs to get the band members to say something different at the exact same time. The band and cheer squad need to get this CRAP changed or stopped ASAP. We all came to KU for a reason, but this kind of junk shouldn't be part of it...

Definitely a game ball for Stuckey. Looked like a bad hold on the missed PAT to me - tough to fault the kicker for that.Re: student chant, I was at the game Saturday and heard them yell on kick-offs but couldn't tell what they were saying (may because I was on the opposite side at the other end?) Can you tell what they are saying on the TV broadcast? It is a little coarse.
