Journal-World Athletes of the Week: Leshon Williams and Caroline Castans

By Journal-World Sports Staff     Sep 21, 2025

Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.

For the week of Sept. 15-21, the selections are Leshon Williams and Caroline Castans.

Leshon Williams, football

Thrust into a larger role by an injury to Daniel Hishaw Jr., KU’s sixth-year senior Iowa transfer running back carried the ball 19 times for 129 yards, including a highlight-reel 62-yard rushing touchdown during which he eluded several West Virginia defenders, and caught a 39-yard receiving touchdown for good measure.

Caroline Castans, soccer

The junior defender from Flower Mound, Texas, already had a goal and five assists to her name prior to KU’s conference opener on Thursday at Oklahoma State, but she came through with a big second-half strike to lift the Jayhawks over the Cowgirls. She played all 90 minutes for KU, which was shorthanded for more than half the game after forward Jordan Rowan got sent off shortly before the interval, and took a season-high three shots in the 1-0 win.
