Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of April 20-26, the selections are Dariel Osoria and Anna Soles.
Dariel Osoria, baseball
Osoria has been on fire since returning to the lineup during KU’s series against Oklahoma State following a two-week absence. The Jayhawks’ Sunflower Showdown sweep included one of the best individual showings by any KU player this year when Osoria went 4-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two doubles and six RBIs in a wild 10-8 win on Saturday.
Anna Soles, softball
The junior first baseman from League City, Texas, seized the spotlight on senior day, hitting a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning on Saturday to earn the Jayhawks a 4-2 victory and series win over Iowa State. In the series overall, she went 3-for-9 with a walk, two homers and five RBIs.
