KUsports.com Athletes of the Week: Boede Rahe and Blakely Barber

By Journal-World Sports Staff     Apr 12, 2026

Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.

For the week of April 6-12, the selections are Boede Rahe and Blakely Barber.

Boede Rahe, baseball

It was a dominant week for the KU reliever, who returned to the bullpen after a couple of starts and in three appearances pitched seven dominant innings in which he was charged with one unearned run (and zero earned) on two hits and two walks. KU won all three games, one against No. 19 Nebraska and two against No. 12 UCF, boosted by Rahe’s efforts. He earned saves in two of the three and was the winning pitcher in the other.

Blakely Barber, softball

A freshman from Georgetown, Texas, Barber has turned in a series of good outings and is now down to a team-best 2.96 ERA on the season. Most recently, she pitched her first career complete game in a 1-0 shutout victory over Baylor on Friday. Barber only recorded one strikeout but limited the Bears to four hits and two walks in seven innings, giving KU’s offense enough time to scratch across its lone run. KU has won seven of its last eight games in which Barber has pitched.
