Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of April 20-26, the selections are Dominic Voegele and Sky Hagan.
Dominic Voegele, baseball
The KU ace set the tone for the Jayhawks’ sweep of Arizona with a complete game on Friday night. In going the distance, the Columbia, Illinois, native equaled a career high with 15 strikeouts and retired the Wildcats’ final 10 batters, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk on the night as KU won 4-2 at Hoglund Ballpark.
Sky Hagan, track and field
In her senior-day meet, the Rock Chalk Classic, the San Jose State transfer won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.58 seconds and was a member of the KU foursome that finished first in the 4×100-meter relay in 45.92 seconds.
