The Kansas football coaching staff’s work continues as it looks to shore up its post-2024 receiving corps.
Tight end Joeseph Skipworth, a three-star prospect from Pace High School in Pace, Florida, announced Wednesday morning that he will join the Jayhawks next year.
Skipworth, who visited KU as part of last weekend’s group, received a scholarship offer from Mississippi State on Tuesday which clearly did not deter him from joining Lance Leipold, Jeff Grimes and company at KU.
“Just everything they really had there and the coaches they have is why I committed,” he told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “I love Coach Grimes. What they have going on at Kansas is something I really look forward to when I get there. The offense they run is great for my style of play.”
Other power-conference offers for Skipworth included Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Pittsburgh and SMU (which he visited just before KU).
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound incoming high school senior, who also plays basketball and baseball, told Kirby that one specific aspect of KU’s pitch stood out during his visit.
“There’s one thing in particular for me, they have a mental health program and player development,” Skipworth said. “That really stood out to me because a lot of other schools don’t have that, and so just to see that and get developed on the mental side of things while getting your skills up, that was one of the biggest things for me, honestly.”
According to MaxPreps, Skipworth caught 11 passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season of high school.
He now joins an intriguing future group of tight ends that, upon his arrival, will feature the likes of Fort Hays State transfer Leyton Cure, Eudora native Jaden Hamm and 2024 recruit Carson Bruhn and potentially, depending on the severity and duration of his injury, could also include Iowa State transfer DeShawn Hanika.
Skipworth is the sixth member of KU’s 2025 recruiting class, following quarterback David McComb, linebacker Malachi Curvey, offensive linemen Anderson Kopp and Juju Marks and running back John Kelly.
