Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.

For the week of March 23-29, the selections are Tyson LeBlanc and Katie Wink.

Tyson LeBlanc, baseball

The junior shortstop from Maurice, Louisiana, hit four home runs in five games this week for the Jayhawks, including a ninth-inning grand slam in Sunday’s series clincher on the road at Cincinnati. He has risen to become KU’s team leader in home runs (nine) and RBIs (29) on the season to this point.

Katie Wink, track and field

Competing in the ESU Spring Open in Emporia, Wink earned a silver medal in her collegiate debut in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39 seconds. Wink, a freshman from Independence, Missouri, also set a personal best with her seventh-place finish in the long jump.
