KUsports.com Athletes of the Week: Laith Marjan and Katie Dalton

By Journal-World Sports Staff     Oct 12, 2025

Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.

For the week of Oct. 6-12, the selections are Laith Marjan and Katie Dalton.

Laith Marjan, football

KU’s best kicker in recent memory, the redshirt senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, accomplished another milestone in Saturday’s loss to Texas Tech. He connected with room to spare on a 55-yard field goal, which both set a career long for Marjan and marked the sixth-longest kick in program history. Marjan is still perfect on the year at 10-for-10 on field goals and 26-for-26 on PATs.

Katie Dalton, volleyball

The senior setter and team captain has emerged as one of KU’s top players this season, and she was excellent for the Jayhawks in a pair of convincing home wins this week. She tallied two double-doubles: a 26-assist, 14-dig effort against Texas Tech and a career-high 55 assists with 12 digs against Iowa State.
