KU, Northern Colorado play foulfest

Kansas University and Northern Colorado combined for 59 fouls, the most in a KU game since KU and Nebraska were also called for 59 fouls on Feb. 4, 1989.

The mark was just three fouls shy of the all-time record of 62 combined fouls between KU and Oklahoma on Feb. 23, 1991. The Bears were whistled for 35 fouls, the most by a Kansas opponent since Colorado was also called for 35 fouls on Jan. 31, 1995.

“I thought this by far was the closest, tightest anybody has called it so far,” KU coach Bill Self said after KU's 109-72 victory Friday in Allen Fieldhouse. “I said don’t be surprised if we have 60 foul calls (this season in a game). In the first game, 59 … good gracious. Fortunately for us, we did a decent job shooting at the line (26 of 34). We need to use that weapon.”

Calling more fouls. That's the solution NCAA? This just slows down the game even more and makes it less appealing to watch. No one wants to see a free throw battle. And guilty until proven innocent for 17 and 18 year old kids? Can we please do something to hold the ncaa accountable? There's no transparency. If there's no clear evidence why a player shouldn't play then let the kid play until you find something clearly violating his/her eligibility. Let's end this cruel and unusual punishment for no reason other than you can't proove that this child is eligible or not eligible. Don't drag out the decision as a form of punishment. Make a decision so the kid can decide to at least salvage this year and make money abroad. I'm really getting to the point where I hope the major conferences get together and form their own league. This is getting so ridiculous that is hard to watch. Fouls and all.

All players have to have passed a certain number of core courses. Diallo's transcrips do not show that he has completed the minimum. Looks like Bill Self has reeled in another partial qualifier - which would make him ineligible this year.

What's the point in a shorter shot clock (supposed to speed up the game) if you're just going to slow it way down with 59 foul calls? It's a double whammy having the game called tighter and the new shorter shot clock creating more possessions for them to call fouls on. I'm all for wanting to see cleaner play, but it was very frustrating having the game stopped on what seemed like every possession! Hats off to the Jayhawks for staying in such a great rhythm all night with so many stoppages in play. It's been like this at the beginning of every season the last few years, but it's always loosened up somewhat over the course of the season. Hopefully this season is no different.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Beat MSU!!!

I suspect the thought is that once players realize they can't play that close they'll back off and give the offensive player more room and scores will go up. I just hope that Self can adjust how he teaches defense...

Watched the Northern Colorado game on ESPN3. The audio lagged the video by about 4 seconds which was very annoying to say the least. Was this true for viewers across the country or was it just here in Western New York?

I had to use a proxy to watch the stream since it was blacked out in Kansas, but I had the same audio issues... Except for during the commercial breaks... Thankfully those played fine SMH

Not sure where you live, but if you have cable, you can watch it on Cox 22 or WOW 37.

Or you can go the old-fashioned route and listen to Bob and Greg on the radio.

I had that issue with ESPN 3 here in Colorado. Incredibly annoying.
