Kansas University and Northern Colorado combined for 59 fouls, the most in a KU game since KU and Nebraska were also called for 59 fouls on Feb. 4, 1989.
The mark was just three fouls shy of the all-time record of 62 combined fouls between KU and Oklahoma on Feb. 23, 1991. The Bears were whistled for 35 fouls, the most by a Kansas opponent since Colorado was also called for 35 fouls on Jan. 31, 1995.
“I thought this by far was the closest, tightest anybody has called it so far,” KU coach Bill Self said after KU’s 109-72 victory Friday in Allen Fieldhouse. “I said don’t be surprised if we have 60 foul calls (this season in a game). In the first game, 59 … good gracious. Fortunately for us, we did a decent job shooting at the line (26 of 34). We need to use that weapon.”
