Georgia point guard Sahvir Wheeler, a 5-foot-10 sophomore who led the SEC in assists last season, is planning to announce his next school at 2 p.m. Monday on a live podcast with Jeff Goodman.

Wheeler is down to Kansas, Kentucky, LSU and Oklahoma State and he is one of the top college basketball players in the transfer portal according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, who recently ranked him 15th on his list of players in the portal this offseason.

KU made the cut into Wheeler’s final four on May 7. Despite Kentucky landing a commitment from Tyty Washington last week, there has been talk in recent days about Wheeler following the elite prep guard to Lexington.

All three Crystal Ball predictions submitted as of Sunday night on Wheeler’s profile at 247 Sports went to UK, including two that were recorded on Sunday.

KU, which still has one scholarship to hand out, remains in search of one more guard to add to the 2021-22 roster. While a true point guard has been popular among KU’s recent targets, the Jayhawks also could be looking for more shooting. Wheeler does not exactly provide that, having shot just 23% from 3-point range last season.

Adding another 3-point shooter would become a much higher priority for KU if either Ochai Agbaji or Jalen Wilson — or both — choose to keep their name in the NBA draft pool. Both have until July to make their decisions.
