Two more Kansas basketball newcomers arrived on campus this week in time for the start of summer school and the program’s offseason workouts.
Drake transfer Joseph Yesufu and Missouri Southern State transfer Cam Martin both moved into their new rooms at McCarthy Hall, joining six freshmen — four scholarship players and two walk-ons — as the newest residents of KU’s basketball dorm.
Both players come to KU with high hopes for their opportunity on the big stage.
Yesufu enjoyed a breakout season at Drake in 2020-21, finishing the season as strong as almost any guard in the country.
Martin, who was a three-time Division II All-American for former KU standout Jeff Boschee at MSSU, is eager to see how his skills translate to the next level of college basketball.
The Jayhawks are still waiting on the arrival of Iowa State transfer Jalen Coleman-Lands. KU coach Bill Self told the Journal-World on Monday that he expected the former Cyclone to arrive sometime this week.
And KU, of course, is also still waiting on NBA decisions from Arizona State transfer Remy Martin and 2020-21 KU starters Ochai Agbaji and Jalen Wilson.
If all three elect to play at KU during the 2021-22 season, the Jayhawks’ roster is set at the maximum number of 13 scholarships, with Mitch Lightfoot returning as a super senior, which does not count against against the scholarship limit for returning players, and four walk-ons.
If any of the three choose to stay in the NBA draft, KU would have the opportunity to fill that scholarship with an additional player if desired.
