On the second day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invitational, Kansas softball split a pair of games between Providence and Bethune-Cookman.
The Jayhawks took down Providence for a 2-1 win in the first game. Shelby Gayre blasted a two-run homer in the first inning. Mandy Roberts and Brynn Minor combined for a 4 1/3 scoreless inning in relief, allowing a total of two hits.
Kansas suffered a 3-1 loss to Bethune-Cookman in the second game. Becki Monaghan scored the lone run of the contest with her second homer of the season.
“It was about our offense today and we got cold at the plate,” KU coach Jennifer McFalls said in a team release. “We didn’t have discipline and were swinging at pitches that we were not looking for.”
Kansas concludes the D9 Citrus Blossom Invitational against Missouri at 8 a.m. Sunday.
