KU baseball rolls to 15-1 win over Furman in series finale

By Staff Report     Apr 28, 2019

After jolting out to a four-run lead in the second inning, Kansas didn’t look back as it blasted past Furman, 15-1, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Latham Stadium.

Kansas junior shortstop Benjamin Sems began the scoring barrage in the first inning with his first of two home runs on the day.

The Jayhawks (22-20) doubled down on Furman (18-26) by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Junior second baseman James Cosentino roped a triple down the line, which scored senior center fielder Rudy Karre and sophomore designated hitter Blaine Ray.

In the fourth inning, Sems blasted his second home run en route to an eight-run inning.

Furman’s offense didn’t score a run until the final inning, as redshirt freshman Eli Davis (5-3) tossed seven shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out five.

KU will travel to Air Force at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
