Kansas tennis drops opener at New Mexico

? Kansas University’s tennis team opened its 2015 spring season with a 4-3 loss to New Mexico on Friday.

KU’s Maria Cardona-Maria Belen Ludueña and Madison Harrison-Smith Hinton won their doubles matches, giving the Jayhawks the doubles points, and Cardona won and No. 1 singles and Rachel McNeely at No. 6, but UNM won Nos. 2-5 singles to win the match.

“Tonight was disappointing loss and definitely not the way we envisioned starting the season, ” KU coach Todd Chapman said.

Kansas will face South Carolina today in Albuquerque.
