KU track continues to cruise

? Kansas University’s track and field team continued its sizz in the second day of the Iowa State Classic.

During the two days of competition, KU athletes provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in six events. Additionally, the Jayhawks broke a total of six school records.

On Saturday, sophomore sprinter and KU football player Leo Bookman set the school mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.81 seconds. Bookman also set the school record in the 200 on Friday.

On the women’s side Saturday, senior Katy Eisenmenger provisionally qualified in the mile run with a time of 4:45.65, placing second. The time was the fourth-best in KU history.

Freshman Brooklyn Hann had her best leap of the season in the triple jump, setting a school record and provisionally qualifying for the NCAAs at 41 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore Laura Lavoie provisionally qualified in the 800, finishing in 2:09.37, the second-best time in Kansas history.

Next for the Jayhawks is the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Lincoln, Neb.
