Two former Jayhawk dignitaries attended Saturday’s game.
KU presented 1994 KU grad Matt Gogel an autographed basketball at the first timeout. Gogel won last week’s Pebble Beach golf tournament for his first victory on the PGA Tour.
“I had hoped to be in such a good mood I could turn around and clap myself,” KU coach Roy Williams said, “but the way we played at the start I was not in a good mood.”
KU trailed 11-7 at the first timeout.
“Last Sunday, Wanda and I watched the tape of the telecast of Matt getting his first PGA victory. It was a thrill to watch it. I hope Matt understands all the support he has around here,” Williams said.
Ex-Jayhawk Scot Pollard watched with his wife, Mindy, and daughter, Lolly. Pollard, a member of the Sacramento Kings, is on NBA all-star break.
“I’ve actually been able to see this team the most since I’ve been in the NBA,” Pollard said. “I love the way those juniors play but they are not the whole team. They are very deep.”
