Thanks Jesse.... He sounds ALOT like Anthony Grant the former coach of VCU, Very astute coach, disciplined, and focused... Whether he SHOULD have been hired at Auburn or not, I am growing more fond of him by the moment.... Come to Kansas and Deliver to us what you Delivered to Buffalo...

Thank you very much for posting that video, Jesse. Like I said in the other thread, I don't know anything about Coach Gill, but judging from that interview, I'm starting to like him already.

The more I hear about and hear from Turner Gill, the more I like him.

Plus, he reminds me of Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans.

My friends, it looks like we now have two class acts as head coaches.

I wanted Harbaugh, then I wanted Tubberville, but watching Turner Gills poise and demeanor, he will have no option but to thrive at KU.

Loved the tid bit of known as on of the best recruiters in the country.

Great Hire Lew.

Welcome Coach Gill....and Rock Chalk Jayhawk

Two days ago, I saw the OTL piece on Gill. I always respected him as a player. But how was he as a coach? The clip on Gill answered that question. I was really impressed after seeing it. Definitely a class act. Good luck, Coach Gill. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU!

Hey, pburgstu...don't let the door hit you in the a-- on the way out. We don't need "fans" like you. Do us all a favor and stay away next fall. You are probably one of the fans that leaves at half time-that is if you even have season tickets. I'm happy for Coach Gill and look forward to cheering on the Jayhawks this fall. Rock Chalk!

Thanks for posting this, Jesse. Good Lord. I can't believe the amount of belly aching, and poor mouthing that many Jayhawk fans are doing on these blogs. Concerned about this hire? Get to know the guy and have some faith, people. I believe we are in excellent hands. Good luck coach, and, as always, Rock Chalk.

This is a ridiculous interview. They spend all this time talking about race this and race that. Everything Turner Gill says indicates he wants to talk about his coaching, his story. But the interview keeps going back to race.

They think they are doing him a favor by talking about race, when Turner Gill doesn't want to talk about it? They did him a huge dis-service. I feel worse for the guy having to deal with these damn liberals than the Auburn situation. Geez.

Seems like a stand-up guy. If he ends up here, I will support him. However, I would have liked more a a seemingly sure thing such as Tuberville. I trust Lew has thought this thru and thinks he has spec'ed out a diamond in the rough.

I certainly enjoyed the interview. Thank you Mr. Newell.

Bottom line is character drips from this guy, and like it or not, that matters when coaching football because it transfers into effort, determination, courage, and a team first mentality. Unless you know nothing about football and what it takes to build a program from nothing, you see that this guy's resume goes WAY deeper than a 20-30 W-L record. This guy's going to get it done...and get it done the RIGHT way. Class act...glad to have him.

Why was Tuberville a sure thing? Auburn fired him, remember? The school that had him didn't think he was a sure thing and hired a coach from IOWA STATE to replace him. Seems to have worked out for them thus far, but this whole Tuberville obsession some people have is baffling. If he was such a sure thing then why is he apparently begging for a job? Shouldn't schools be chasing him if he was a "sure thing" instead of the other way around? Makes you wonder what Lew has heard about him that we haven't.

And pburgstu, race does matter. The fact that you didn't grow up int he 60's doesn't excuse being ignorant about the state of race in America or its history. And whether or not his race makes you "feel good," at least consider the positives it can have for the program. There are a lot of athletes in this area that may love to play for a black coach and who, all other things being equal, may base their decision on that. It might get him into living rooms that otherwise wouldn't be accessible to a coach at KU. If you don't care about his race in terms of it being cool that the Big XII will actually have a non-white coach, then care about it for purely selfish reasons - it can help him succeed here, rightly or wrongly. And this obsession that the word "race" can never be uttered is as ridiculous as an obsession with bringing everything back to race. I don't know what exactly makes you want to cry, or what the hell you're claiming that Jesse was writing, but either way, your feelings don't make the report about race wrong and don't make Gill a bad hire for this football program.

pburgstfu, Jesse isn't implying anything. He simply found an easily accessible, even if poorly done, interview to share with KU fans to help them get to know what kind of person and coach Gill is. I'm guessing not many fans — least of all you — have memorized Gill's bio, and posting this video was a simple way of giving fans a glimpse into his character. Whatever decade you did grow up in, it didn't make you any less ignorant.

I have a really good feeling about this hire. Some guys have that "it" factor. Bill Self has it and I think Turner Gill does too. How could you not want to play for this guy?

Upper deck home run for KU. You have no idea how fortunate you are today.

Great story. I remember watching Gill when he was a Husker. The guy was a gamer! He has definately earned this opportunity and I'm thankful that Perkins had the insight to hire Turner. He'll be a great fit at KU. And, as Jaminrawk pointed out, Gill has the "it" factor. Great, great hire.

Along with the "it" factor, Gill brings great work ethic and solid character to the table. He's more than a coach. He's a man with integrity who genuinly cares about the players under his watch. My hat it is off to KU for stepping up to the plate and bringing Gill into the Jayhawk family.

Looking forward to waiving the wheat next fall! Rock Chalk Jayhawks, Go KU!

It was stated earlier that the Lew is "smarter than us", and I agree that the guys at the top have a lot more information than us "lay people". I was fine with the choice of Gill, then read more about his pedigree, and felt optimistic, then watched that video, and felt that KU maybe has scored a bigger winner than Mangino was. MM did a good job of getting us out of mediocrity (other than this year), and it may be that Gill will get us to the next level, of being a challenger every year. We still have to compete against NU, OU, and Texas, but I get the feeling that his recruiting, offensive mindset, and character will bring out the best in KU football.

Great video. Gill has the strength-of-character that KUFB needs right now. KU might win some ball games as well. RCJH!

Holy Cow! That is the kind of humble and couragous leadership I'd like at my job and I certainly want it for my favorite football team!

I am proud to have Coach Gill at KU! Let's go get that Big 12 North Championship!

Welcome to Lawrence Coach Gill!
