KU faces Eagles, comes out on top
Tonight Bill Self's squad put their new #3 ranking on the line for the first time against Eastern Washington. The Hawks bested the Eagles, 85-47.
Eagles to invade Hawks' nest
After winning its first road game of the year at USC, the Kansas men's basketball team returns home tonight. This evening the Jayhawks take on Eastern Washington at Allen Fieldhouse, where Kevin Romary is standing by.

- Bill Self talks about his team's post-based offensive attack in a blowout win over Eastern Washington
- Darnell Jackson talks about attacking the paint against EWU and looking for revenge against DePaul
- Darrell Arthur talks about his offensive showing, which focused on his abilities near the hoop
- Russell Robinson talks about the offense's focus steering towards getting the ball in the paint more efficiently
Conner Teahan, who scored five points in two minutes, was rewarded for his stint upon returning to the bench late in Kansas University's 85-47 rout of Eastern Washington on Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
"Con-ner Tea-han, Con-ner Tea-han," the students behind the north goal chanted in unison, bringing smiles to Teahan, coach Bill Self and the rest of the players and staff members on the bench.
Did he hear the chants after hitting a reverse layup as well as a deep 3-pointer during mop-up time?
"Yes. I don't know if it's deserving," the modest K.C. Rockhurst High graduate added with a smile.
"I went in and played as hard as I could and scored a few points."
Teahan has scored 31 points in 25 minutes this season.
Has anybody teased him about likely leading the country in points per minute?
"Yes, I've gotten that a couple of times," the 6-foot-5, 205-pounder said with a smile. "I wouldn't know about that."
Here are some more fun facts regarding Teahan: He's 9-of-11 from 3-point land, which comes out to an amazing 81.8 percent mark. He's tied for second on the team with Russell Robinson and Brandon Rush for 3s made, trailing only Mario Chalmers, who has 14.
Robinson has taken 30 3s to make nine; Rush has put up 24 treys.
Teahan's production calculates to 49.6 points per 40 minutes played.
"Teahan is pretty much 'wet' right now," Rush said, coining a word for being "hot." "I don't think anybody in the nation can shoot like Teahan off the bench, cold.
"He's our spark out of all our walk-ons."

I agree Conner is a very good shooter, but he has to improve his defense and ball handling before he will see significant minutes. I believe he will be an impact player in the years to come. He could end up becoming a JJ Redick-type player that can hit a shot from anywhere on the floor and frustrate defenses all night, opening up the lane for our bigs.

Lol. Yeah.. totally different styles there. If you are really looking for someone in that he might be "in the mold of" in that time frame... an Adam Morrison would be a far more logical comparison. It's way too early to start saying that, too... but when a guy can go 9 for 11 in the actual games that count.. as a freshman.. I'm not one to rule anything out!
If Teahan went to a school that permitted him to chuck 3's from anywhere, anytime... (Like Gonzaga!) Lord knows what kind of numbers he could be putting up right now.
I have an incredible amount of respect for this kid. Bypassing both an opportunity to be a major contributor right away AND a scholarship at some other decent programs... to come to KU. What's not to like about that!
This is one case where I really anticipate he's going to be awarded a scholly starting next year.

Maybe Conner should be the sixth or seventh man?

Quite frankly I don't see how we can give him an accurate critique until we see him play significant minutes against a quality team during the meat of the game. It's hard to assess anything during mop-up time. I'd like to see him get some first half minutes against DePaul while playing defense on their 2 or 3 guard and see how well he hits the trey against the first team. C'mon Bill, put him in!! LOL

I agree completely kranny.
I think he and Self are both positive he's not ready defensively. That's going to prevent any situation where he gets early minutes or anytime where a defensive stop may be critical. He'll get a shot for more playing time probably as early as next year.

You know what...
Last year I made some silly remarks about the recruitment of Connor Teahan, probably because he wasnt among Rivals and Scouts top recruits.
Teahan has shut my mouth and I will never speak ill of the kid again, I can tell you that.
This kid is the real deal, and I say play him. Dont leave points on the bench. Yes, his defense needs to improve maybe but he cant work on that unless and until he gets game experience. Teahan came to play, didnt he? If this kid's not a gamer, I don't know who is.
