The Tyty Washington decision is now just hours away.
According to ESPN recruiting analyst Paul Biancardi, the four-star point guard from Compass Prep in Phoenix will announce his decision at 8 p.m. tonight on SportsCenter.
Washington, who retweeted Biancardi’s announcement of the new decision time, is expected to choose between Kansas, Kentucky, LSU and Arizona.
Currently ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect in ESPN’s 2021 class, Washington has been one of the most talked about and coveted prospects in the country during the past couple of months.
His status as one of the lone remaining elite point guards in the class made him an attractive option for any program in need. But his performance at GEICO Nationals and last week’s Iverson All-Star Classic added to the buzz surrounding his name.
In a recent breakdown about Washington’s recruitment, Rivals.com analyst Rob Cassidy said the 6-foot-4 guard who has shown elite ability to play both on and off the ball would “almost certainly flirt with five-star status” in the Rivals database during the site’s final 2021 rankings.
Over at 247 Sports, eight of the nine Crystal Ball picks for Washington have been recorded for Kentucky. Two of them came this week. The only non-Kentucky prediction came from Jason Scheer, who runs the Rivals site Arizona Insider. Scheer predicted back on April 24 that Washington was headed to Tucson, Ariz.
We’ll know soon enough, as Washington has moved his announcement up from Saturday to tonight, which, funny enough, was the date he originally announced on Twitter a couple of weeks ago.
**In unrelated but still somewhat interesting other “recruiting” news,** former Kansas guard Bryce Thompson announced on Twitter that his next decision date was slated for Thursday.
Thompson, who left KU after one injury-plagued season with the program, will make his announcement at noon central time.
The former 5-star guard from Tulsa, Okla., is choosing between Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa, which guarantees that he’ll be staying close to home for his second stint as a college basketball player.
There’s obviously a 67% chance that Thompson will stay in the Big 12, too, which would give the Jayhawks at least two cracks per season at him in the years ahead.
