KUsports.com staff divided on Saturday’s KU-ISU showdown

By Matt Tait     Nov 7, 2014

Many within the KU football program and fan base believe this week’s 2:30 p.m. Saturday showdown with Iowa State at Memorial Stadium is a winnable game for the Jayhawks.

But not everyone at KUsports.com believes that to be true.

Here’s a look at this week’s picks:

• WEEK 10 MATCH-UPS •
———————

Iowa State at Kansas

West Virginia at Texas

Kansas State at TCU

Baylor at Oklahoma

Notre Dame at Arizona State

Ohio State at Michigan State

• QUESTION OF THE WEEK •
————————

Throughout time, there have been some pretty good, and also pretty bad, performances by athletes in Hollywood. What’s your favorite or most memorable?

*Overall: 44-10 Last week: 6-0*

**Iowa State 17**, Kansas 16

**West Virginia 31**, Texas 24

**Kansas State 35**, TCU 34

**Baylor 56**, Oklahoma 49

**Arizona State 24**, Notre Dame 21

**Michigan State 28**, Ohio State 24

**Answer:** My favorite athlete during my childhood was Michael Jordan and my favorite movie was Space Jam, so I’ll have to go with Michael Jordan in Space Jam. Having Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and other NBA stars helped make Space Jam memorable as well. I hope LeBron James stays true to his word and doesn’t try to help make a sequel.

*Overall: 42-12 Last week: 5-1*

**Kansas 35**, Iowa State 31

**West Virginia 27**, Texas 21

**TCU 45**, Kansas State 42

**Oklahoma 45**, Baylor 42

**Arizona State 24**, Notre Dame 21

**Michigan State 24**, Ohio State 21

**Answer:** Kareem Abdul Jabbar as co-pilot Jack Murdoch in Airplane is a classic. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2A194yTWoQ)

*Overall: 40-12 Last week: 4-2*

**Iowa State 42**, Kansas 28

**West Virginia 45**, Texas 44, OT

**TCU 3**, Kansas State 2

**Baylor 77**, Oklahoma 70

**Notre Dame 35**, Arizona State 7

**Michigan State 14**, Ohio State 3

**Answer:** Best — O.J. Simpson killed it in the “Naked Gun” movies; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in “Airplane!” Bad — Any of the athletes (except Rex Walters and Adonis Jordan) and coaches (except Tark) associated with “Blue Chips. Come to think of it,
the the “actors” in that movie weren’t too spiffy, either; any of golfers in “Tin Cup.” Come to think of it, the “actors” in the movie weren’t too spiffy, either. Off-the-charts awful — Wilt Chamberlain as Bombaata in “Conan the Destroyer.”

*Overall: 41-13 Last week: 6-0*

**Kansas 28**, Iowa State 20

**West Virginia 33**, Texas 17

**Kansas State 42**, TCU 28

**Oklahoma 38**, Baylor 37

**Notre Dame 41**, Arizona State 27

**Michigan State 27**, Ohio State 22

**Answer:** Mike Tyson in “The Hangover” was hilarious. Love that movie.

*Overall: 38-16 Last week: 5-1*

**Kansas 24**, Iowa State 21

**West Virginia 28**, Texas 24

**Kansas State 31**, TCU 28

**Baylor 41**, Oklahoma 38

**Notre Dame 35**, Arizona State 34

**Michigan State 28**, Ohio State 24

**Answer:** My favorite was Jim Brown’s in The Dirty Dozen. Unlike O.J. Simpson, a bad actor in so many ways, Brown, the greatest player in NFL history was a very skilled actor. However, he finds activism more meaningful and has devoted his life to that.

*Overall: 37-17 Last week: 6-0*

**Iowa State 31**, Kansas 28

**West Virginia 35**, Texas 27

**Kansas State 41**, TCU 38

**Oklahoma 37**, Baylor 36

**Arizona State 40**, Notre Dame 37

**Michigan State 28**, Ohio State 27

**Answer:** Professional wrestler Mike Lane, who played a boxer in Humphrey Bogart’s last film, “The Harder They Fall.”

*Overall: 37-17 Last week: 4-2*

**Iowa State 28**, Kansas 24

**West Virginia 30**, Texas 23

**TCU 33**, Kansas State 30

**Baylor 35**, Oklahoma 31

**Arizona State 31**, Notre Dame 30

**Michigan State 42**, Ohio State 38

**Answer:** Do I remember Carl Weathers playing for the Oakland Raiders in the early ’70s? No. I wasn’t alive. Do I remember him playing himself on “Arrested Development?” Yeah. “Baby, you’ve got a stew going.”

*Overall: 37-17 Last week: 4-2*

**Kansas 21**, Iowa State 20

**West Virginia 24**, Texas 17

**Kansas State 27**, TCU 26

**Baylor 30**, Oklahoma 27

**Arizona State 35**, Notre Dame 33

**Michigan State 27**, Ohio State 24

**Answer:** Roger Murdock in “Airplane!”

*Overall: 36-18 Last week: 5-1*

**Kansas 23**, Iowa State 20

**Texas 28**, West Virginia 26

**Kansas State 33**, TCU 31

**Baylor 41**, OU 36

**Notre Dame 31**, Arizona State 27

**Michigan State 28**, Ohio State 24

**Answer:** I’ve gotta go with Ray Allen as Jesus Shuttlesworth in “He Got Game.” I’m sure some of what went on in the recruitment for Jesus was very real for Allen during his recruitment and I’m sure that made his ability to play the character in true-to-life form even easier. Regardless, Allen was great in the movie, as was former Los Angeles Laker Rick Fox, who played “Chick Deagan” and tried to help recruit Shuttlesworth to college hoops powerhouse Tech U.

*Overall: 36-18 Last week: 5-1*

**Iowa State 37**, Kansas 14

**Texas 28**, West Virginia 27

**TCU 38**, Kansas State 31

**Oklahoma 42**, Baylor 41

**Notre Dame 24**, ASU 23

**Michigan State 30**, Ohio State 20

**Answer:** The best performance by an athlete in Hollywood: I guess I’ll go with Leo Durocher appearing in the Munsters and Mr. Ed. I don’t think Durocher made it to the Brady Bunch or the Partridge Family, but he might have. I can’t think of anybody else except O.J. Simpson in the Naked Gun movie(s).
