After scoring in double-figures for the third straight game and reaching the 15-point mark for the fourth time in his last six contests, Malik Newman spoke about his mindset coming into KU’s 79-68 win in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
“Just wanted to go out, be aggressive, make plays, help the big fella rebound,” Newman said. “Just try to put my team in a position to win.”
While KU played with a dialed-up intensity — at least in the first half — Newman noted the challenge featured a noticeable change from the intensity of Big 12 games, something he expects to return on Monday.
“Not comfortable, but I think we have done good,” Newman said of the Jayhawks’ 6-2 start to Big 12 play. “I know it’s going to be a tough game (vs. K-State). It’s a rivalry game.”
