At first glance, Chicago Uplift sophomore guard Markese Jacobs doesn’t fit the profile for a high-flying dunker.

Jacobs is listed at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds and isn’t going to intimidate opposing players when he walks into the gym. But once he sprints out in open court and has his eyes on the rim, that’s a different story.

Jacobs, a 2019 Kansas commit, has provided highlight-reel dunks all season long, leading Uplift to an 18-4 record in the vaunted Chicago Public League alongside his brother, Demarius Jacobs, a senior who has signed with Southern Illinois.

The dunks aren’t a one-game special. During one game in a holiday tournament, Jacobs registered five dunks in one half.

There weren’t stats available on Jacobs this season (at least none updated this month), but it appears he’s averaging around 15 points per game.

A quick look at KU’s other commitments for the upcoming 2017 class:

Billy Preston, Oak Hill
—————

In a high profile matchup earlier this month at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., Preston matched up against Washington signee Michael Porter Jr., one of the top recruits in the nation.

The 6-9, 220-pound Preston finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds in a losing effort, scoring only two points in the second half while Porter erupted for a game-high 36 points.

Otherwise Oak Hill, which plays a national schedule, is off to a 19-3 start.

In one interview, which took place last month, Preston was asked what kind of role did he expect once he arrives at Kansas?

“I think I’m going to take on a leader role, you feel me?” Preston said. “I’m more of an on-the-court person, lead by example type person. I would just rather get there, work my butt off and show that I can take a team to another level.”

Marcus Garrett, Skyline
—————

Garrett was already known for his versatility when he showed a strong command of his offenses during the summer at point guard and away from the ball.

During the school season, Garrett has taken his versatility to another level, averaging nearly a triple-double for Skyline High in Dallas — 15.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists. According to Dallas Morning News, Garrett leads the area in assists and is third in rebounding.

His team, ranked No. 5 in the state, owns a 20-1 record.

Garrett’s most high profile game this season was a 66-57 victory in November over Kansas target Trae Young and Norman (Okla.) North. Garrett scored 18 second-half points.
