Kansas sophomore forward Jordan Rowan split a pair of BYU defenders to score her third goal of the season in the 82nd minute on Thursday night, and the Jayhawks and Cougars played to a 1-1 draw at Rock Chalk Park.
BYU surged ahead early when Emma Hamberlin got around KU goalkeeper Sophie Dawe and her shot on an open goal deflected off KU’s London De Fini and into the net.
While KU outshot BYU 17-14, the Cougars put eight shots on target to just three for the Jayhawks, but Dawe made six saves. BYU thwarted KU for some time until a headed pass from Marit McLaughlin — the hero of the last two games for the Jayhawks — played in Rowan, who got between Avery Frischknecht and Bella Woods before sending a left-footed shot past Paiton Woods for the equalizer.
The Jayhawks, who along with BYU were among four teams tied for first place in the Big 12 Conference entering Thursday, moved to 11-3-2 on the year and 5-1-2 in league play. They will travel to face TCU on Sunday at 1 p.m.; the Horned Frogs were the preseason favorites in the conference but have struggled much of the year.
