The Kansas football team continued to bolster its depth in the trenches with young talent on Friday afternoon as it earned the commitment of Caleb Redd.
Redd, a 6-foot-3, 232-pound edge rusher, spent the 2024 season at Kentucky, where he redshirted. He slotted in at outside linebacker with the Wildcats, who use a 3-4 scheme, but played in just two games during his first season at UK. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Redd was a three-star prospect out of De Smet Jesuit High School in the St. Louis area. He tallied 13 sacks his senior year there and was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s defensive player of the year, before he chose to attend Kentucky over the likes of Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC, though he had also received an offer from KU earlier in his recruiting process, back during November of his junior season.
This time around, Redd reported offers from Miami (Ohio) and Missouri State before announcing his commitment to KU on social media on Friday afternoon.
The picture at defensive end for KU is unclear after Jereme Robinson and Dylan Wudke, both of the Jayhawks’ primary contributors at strong-side end, exhausted their eligibility. Redd’s frame would suggest he could serve as another weak-side option along with second-team all-conference pick Dean Miller, Bai Jobe, Dakyus Brinkley and the like. DJ Warner entered the transfer portal after playing extensively behind Miller as a true freshmen.
