Georgetown transfer Primo Spears chose Florida State over the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday evening.

Spears had been listed as one of the top transfer portal prospects for KU, but KU also has landed two other guards out of the transfer portal since Spears’ name first emerged as a KU target.

KU early in the month picked up a commitment from 6-foot-4 Towson guard Nick Timberlake and this past week landed Texas transfer Arterio Morris, who was the top-ranked point guard in the class of 2022.

The 6-foot-3 Spears has been described as more of an old-school guard by several analysts. A good portion of his points come from a solid midrange game, and he hits just 30% from behind the 3-point arc.

Spears averaged 16 points a game for Georgetown last season, and he had some big-time games along the way. He scored 28 points in Georgetown’s opening game of the season and posted 20-plus performances in each of the next two games. His 16 points per game ended up being fourth best in the Big East Conference.

But Spears also got his points on a team that had a terrible season. Georgetown went 7-25 on the season. That was much the same story for Spears at his first college stop. He averaged nearly 13 points per game as a freshman for Duquesne, but the team went 6-24 for the season and won only one game in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Kansas continues to be in the mix for several other transfers. Michigan center Hunter Dickinson is the biggest prize in the transfer portal, and the 7-foot-1 big man who averaged 18.1 points per game for Michigan last year has made an official visit to Kanas. However, he’s also taken trips to fellow blue blood schools Kentucky and Villanova.

KU also remains in the running for Texas Tech transfer Jaylon Tyson, who reportedly was on the Lawrence campus this weekend for an official visit. Tyson, a 6-foot-7 wing, averaged 10.7 points a game and made more than 40% of his 3-point attempts for the Red Raiders last season.
