Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of Feb. 16-22, the selections are Dimitrios Antonatos and Hailey Cripe.
Dimitrios Antonatos, track and field
Antonatos, a sophomore from Greece, earned the first collegiate win of his career by throwing the shot put 17.27 meters at the Steve Miller Invitational in Manhattan on Friday.
Hailey Cripe, softball
The senior shortstop and team captain from Royal Center, Indiana, has picked up where she left off early in the 2026 season. During the Joan Joyce Classic in Boca Raton, Florida, Cripe had a hit in all five games and finished 7-for-17 with two home runs and six RBIs as the Jayhawks compiled a 3-2 record.
