Each week during the University of Kansas’ winter and spring sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of April 28 to May 4, the selections are Dimitrios Pavlidis and Emma Tatum.
Dimitrios Pavlidis, track and field
Fresh off a first-place finish at the Rock Chalk Classic, KU’s senior discus thrower from Greece did it again at the Desert Heat Invitational in Tucson, Arizona, using a throw of 60.51 meters to claim his second straight crown.
Emma Tatum, softball
The junior from Huntington, Texas, didn’t play in the first game of KU’s home series against UCF, but starting as the designated player in the following two, she went a combined 4-for-6 with four RBIs, including a go-ahead two-RBI single late in Sunday’s matchup before the Knights rallied to win 8-6. She had just 12 hits and 16 RBIs the rest of the regular season combined.
