Kansas football has added another piece to its backfield of the future.

Harry Stewart III, a running back from Centennial High in Frisco, Texas, committed to KU on Tuesday afternoon following his official visit over the weekend. The consensus three-star prospect, who also had offers from schools like Baylor, BYU, Cal, Michigan, Missouri and Texas A&M, now becomes the fourth player to commit after a dozen recruits visited Lawrence over the weekend.

Stewart is also the second running back in the class of 2024 after Red Martel, third skill-position player and ninth commitment overall.

“Coach (Jonathan) Wallace was the first to know,” Stewart told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “We were in his office in meetings. He gave me a whole presentation of what he wants to do with me, my development plan, the schemes and everything. It came down to the question, why not Kansas? And on the spot, I said, ‘Hey, I don’t have a reason really. And I want to commit.'”

Stewart said that Wallace, the running backs coach, had led the way in his recruitment for months.

The incoming senior running back has had a productive first three years at Centennial, totaling 2,394 yards and 17 touchdowns in 25 games played entering his final high school season.

“It’s like a lot of weight lifted off my shoulders for sure,” he told Kirby. “I don’t have to worry about it, and I have been stressing about the decision for a long time wondering where I’m going to go. I feel like I can just focus on football and my team this season. I feel relaxed and I’m real relieved right now.”

The Jayhawks did miss out on one prospect among the weekend visitors when safety David Kabongo committed to Oklahoma State Monday.
