Kansas softball finishes off 5-0 weekend with walk-off win

By Staff Report     Mar 21, 2021

It might have taken some theatrics on Sunday, but the Kansas softball team finished off a five-game weekend sweep in the Jayhawk Invitational at Arrocha Ballpark.

KU’s Morgyn Wynne delivered a walk-off two-run homer to center in the bottom of the eighth, wrapping up a 11-9 win over South Dakota in the final game of the weekend. The performance came after Kansas (16-8) won both of its doubleheaders during the first two days of the Jayhawk Invitational.

Kansas grabbed a 3-1 win over Tulsa in the first game on Friday before claiming a 11-9 victory over North Dakota State in the nightcap. On Saturday, KU secured a 8-2 win over South Dakota and a 9-5 victory over North Dakota State.

Following Sunday’s win, pitcher Kasey Hamilton improved to 3-3 on the year after tossing 6 2/3 innings of relief. She recorded six strikeouts, though South Dakota held the lead for much of the game after scoring two runs in the top of the first.

The Jayhawks started to make a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning when redshirt junior Sydnee Ramsey hit a two-out single through the left side. They then sent the game to extras with a four-run rally in the home half of the seventh, which was capped by a game-tying two-run blast from sophomore Haleigh Harper.

Kansas will host Arkansas at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
