Kansas baseball sweeps Creighton in four-game series at home

By Staff Report     Mar 21, 2021

Behind another complete performance, the Kansas baseball team completed its sweep of Creighton with a 7-4 win Sunday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark.

The win in the series finale came after KU took care of business through three games in two days. The Jayhawks needed extra innings to secure a 7-6 win over the Bluejays, which was punctuated by a walk-off solo home run from Skyler Messinger in the bottom of the 14th inning.

Kansas then recorded back-to-back wins over Creighton on Saturday, both of which were by a 11-3 margin. The Jayhawks improved to 12-6 on the season following the four-game sweep, while the Bluejays fell to 4-7 overall.

In the series finale, Eli Davis got the starting nod and stymied the Creighton offense. He allowed one run over seven innings of work, striking out four batters in the process. Davis is now 3-1 on the year with a 2.90 ERA.

KU’s offense was led by Dylan Ditzenberger and Messinger, as they both recorded multi-hit games. Ditzenberger went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Messinger went 2-for-2 with a RBI, a run scored and two walks. Kansas scored four of its seven runs in the bottom of the second.

Kansas will travel to Lafayette at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
