The Kansas women’s basketball team will open postseason play at 5 p.m. Thursday against TCU in the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
Seeded ninth, the Jayhawks (7-17 overall, 3-15 Big 12) will take on No. 8 seed TCU (9-14, 4-14) at Municipal Auditorium just down the street from where the second-seeded Kansas men’s team will open play in the men’s tourney at T-Mobile Center.
KU and K-State tied for ninth in the final Big 12 standings, but the Jayhawks won the tiebreaker to claim the higher seed. As a result, K-State will face No. 7 seed Texas Tech in Thursday’s other opening-round game.
Brandon Schneider’s Kansas team finished the regular season on an eight-game losing streak, but split the regular season series with TCU, winning by 10 points at home and losing by three in Fort Worth, Texas, earlier in the season.
Schneider’s squad endured a series of changes throughout the season, from COVID-19 pauses to players opting out and injuries.
The winner of Thursday’s game will advance to the Friday’s quarterfinals, where a matchup with top-seeded Baylor awaits at 1:30 p.m.
The Jayhawks lost to Baylor twice this season, including a 93-67 home loss in Saturday’s regular season finale.
Thursday’s game will be televised on Big 12 Now/ESPN+.
