No. 25 Kansas soccer scored two second-half goals to defeat Kansas State, 2-0, in the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday in Manhattan.
The contest was scoreless until the 68th minute when KU junior Kailey Lane found junior Rylan Childers with a cross pass. Childers finished off the sequence with an easy goal.
In the 77th minute, KU added an insurance score when freshman Shira Elinav redirected a feed from junior Samantha Barnett off her head. It was the first goal of Elinav’s career.
KU junior goalkeeper Sarah Peters earned her fifth shutout of the season and 25th of her career. With the win, Kansas improved to 6-3-1 on the 2020-21 season. Kansas State fell to 3-7 on the year.
Kansas will host Kansas State on Saturday at Rock Chalk Park. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
