The Kansas women’s basketball team couldn’t keep its recent late-season surge moving in the right direction on Tuesday night versus Iowa State.
The Jayhawks fell, 61-42, in their regular-season home finale, despite a career-best 17 rebounds from junior Tina Stephens, whose 12 points made her the only KU scorer to reach double figures.
The Cyclones (17-11 overall, 9-8 Big 12), meanwhile, had three scorers in double digits, including their own rebounding machine, Ashley Joens, who countered Stephens’ double-double with 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds of her own.
KU (15-13, 4-13) shot just 24.6% from the field in the loss at Allen Fieldhouse, and especially struggled from 3-point range, going 3-for-21 (14.3%).
ISU’s success from long range helped the visitors sweep the regular-season series and stop KU’s short-lived two-game winning streak. The Cyclones, led by Rae Johnson’s 5-for-7 shooting from deep, went 12-for-30 on 3-pointers.
KU was out-rebounded, 58-46.
The Jayhawks wrap up their regular season on Sunday at rival Kansas State.
