Lubbock, Texas ? Kansas sophomore Sharon Lokedi won the women’s individual title Saturday at the Big 12 cross country championships.
Lokedi won the 6K race in a time of 20:18.5, and it was the first individual league championship in the history of the women’s program.
She led the KU women to a sixth-place team finish. Senior James Hampton placed 14th and helped the KU men’s team place fourth.
“When I started, I didn’t want to go out too hard,” Lokedi said. “I kept just kept listening to my body and kept it under control. With each mile, the more I ran, the better I felt. I was like, ‘I can do this.’ Once I reached that point (4K mark) I knew that was the time to go. My body was adjusting well and mentally I was ready.”
