After playing close the entire game, the Kansas University women’s basketball team lost touch in the final quarter and fell to Washington State, 66-53, on Sunday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Jayhawks trailed after each quarter, but took one of their few leads early in the third quarter. From there, however, the Cougars (9-2) jumped back on top by the end of the third and then opened the fourth quarter with five straight points to go up 49-41.
After KU clawed back to within three on a three-pointer by Timeka O’Neal, the Cougars hit Kansas with a 10-2 run and opened up a double-digit lead inside the final three minutes.
KU (5-5) could not recover and, despite playing hard to the end, dropped its fourth home game of the season.
Lauren Aldridge (13), Kylee Koptatich (11) and Caelynn Manning-Allen (10) led KU in scoring.
Next up, the Jayhawks will play host to Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the final non-conference game of the season.
KU will open Big 12 play at Oklahoma on Dec. 30.
