? A bad start and worse finish doomed former Kansas University golfer Gary Woodland to an opening-round 3-over-par 75 Thursday at the British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Woodland bogeyed the first three holes Thursday — all par-4s — before birdieing Nos. 4 and 5. He made the turn at 2-over, birdied No. 10, then ran off seven straight pars before double-bogeying the par-5 18th.

He’s tied for 105th and is in danger of not making the cut. The projected cut — low 70 scores, plus ties — would have been at 1-over 73 Thursday.
