When: 5 p.m. Sunday
Where: Allen Fieldhouse
Who: Kansas vs. No. 10 Cal
Series: Cal leads, 4-1
Vicious Bears
Ranked No. 10 in the nation, Cal has topped 100 points twice this season and arrives in Lawrence averaging 90.3 points a game on 50.7 percent shooting.
What’s more, the unbeaten Golden Bears start three players who stand 6-foot-2 or taller, and coach Lindsay Gottlieb has four more backups in that range she can bring off the bench. Not surprisingly, Cal averages 47 rebounds a game and 5.3 blocked shots.
Basically, the Jayhawks should be afraid. KU coach Bonnie Henrickson called Cal senior forward Reshanda Gray “one of, if not the best” post players in the nation.
“You talk about rip your face off and eat your children, she’s one of those (players). And I say that with an unbelievable amount of respect,” Henrickson said. “And they feed off of her, her pace and intensity.”
Streaking
Kansas senior guard Natalie Knight easily has established herself as the Jayhawks’ top three-point shooter. The Olathe native has cashed in 17 of 38 from downtown (44.7 percent). In KU’s previous three games, the fourth-year starter has caught fire, nailing nine of 14 threes.
Slumping
Starting sophomore forward Jada Brown scored a season-high 12 points against Alabama, but has only scored six total points in KU’s five games since then.
