After a hard-fought match took its toll on the new pitch at Rock Chalk Park on Friday night, Kansas University officials have opted to move the Jayhawks’ match today against SMU to the team’s former game field at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The game will still kick off at 1 p.m. and will be free to the public.
KU defeated Wyoming, 3-1, in the season opener Friday night. Juniors Liana Salazar and Ashley Williams as well as freshman Lois Heuchan added goals in the victory. The Jayhawks will play a Mustang squad that is coming off a 4-0 defeat at Nebraska on Friday.
The Mustangs got off to a slow start as the Cornhuskers led 3-0 in the 33rd minute. Nebraska outshot SMU, 10-1, in the first half. SMU enters 2014 after tallying a 9-9-1 record a year ago. The Mustangs return eight starters from last year when they placed eighth in the American Athletic Conference with a 3-5-1 record. SMU was picked to finish fifth in the league’s preseason poll.
While today’s match will no longer be broadcast by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and ESPN3, the Jayhawk Radio Network will still provide an audio broadcast. Fans can listen by logging on to KUAthletics.com.
