Kansas running back Jake Sharp leads Jayhawks out of their own territory with this 17-yard run against Missouri during the first quarter, Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Arrowhead Stadium.

During his playing days, former Kansas University running back Jake Sharp was one of the fastest players to suit up for the Jayhawks. Today, Sharp spends his time helping young athletes build their speed and sharpen their football skills.

Sharp’s next opportunity to do so comes this weekend at Olathe Northwest High, where he will host a youth camp for first through eighth graders on Saturday and a junior high and high school combine on Sunday.

“The main thing about our camp is that we really coach the kids up,” Sharp said. “The kids get a lot of reps. It’s not one of those camps where they show up and we just play around with them. The kids really learn a lot about football.”

Included among the instructors at Sharp’s camp are: former Jayhawks Kerry Meier and Caleb Blakesley; current KU quarterback Jordan Webb; and several former Kansas State and Oklahoma players along with four current NFL players.

“The young kids really like to learn from the guys they’ve seen play on Saturdays and Sundays,” Sharp said. “And I’ve been lucky enough to have some buddies that do that.”

Registration begins at 10 a.m. both days and the camps run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch included. For more information, or to register, log on to www.sharpsportsperformance.com.
