Dreams of Todd Reesing Part II will have to be put on hold for at least another couple of seasons.
While Lake Travis High (Austin, Texas) grad Garrett Gilbert (Class of 2009) already is entrenched as the starter at the University of Texas, RedRaiders.com reported Friday that Lake Travis junior Michael Brewer (Class of 2011) has committed orally to Texas Tech.
In his first season as a starter, and the fourth since Reesing departed, Brewer threw for 4,450 yards and 43 touchdowns in 2009.
The one big difference between Reesing and both of his successors? Gilbert stands 6-foot-4, and Brewer is listed at 6-1.
Speaking of Reesing, the 5-11 former Kansas University quarterback has spent the past few weeks preparing for KU’s Pro Day, which is slated for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Anschutz Pavilion.
Several NFL scouts will be in Lawrence putting KU’s outgoing seniors through a series of drills and timing tests in preparation for April’s NFL Draft.
Reesing, who many draft experts say is too small to transition into an NFL quarterback, said he plans to continue his playing career after college.
“As of right now, I have no idea where that could be,” Reesing said. “I still want to play. I’m still young and healthy for the most part. It sure beats a 9-to-5 (job), the way I see it right now. … If the chances (of making an NFL roster) aren’t looking like what I want to hear, then maybe I’ll try to get on and go play in the CFL. Either way, I’m pretty positive that I’ll have a good chance of playing some football at some point in the future.”
Kansas offers Colorado QB
Rivals.com reported that Kansas has offered a scholarship to another quarterback in the Class of 2011.
KU recently became the fourth school to offer Brock Berglund, 6-4, 205, of Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch, Colo. Berglund threw for 2,221 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior. He also has received offers from Colorado State, Minnesota and Utah.
In addition to Berglund, KU has offered scholarships to quarterbacks Christian Suntrup (Chaminade, St. Louis) and Bubba Starling (Gardner-Edgerton High).
KU likes Omaha linebacker
Already ultra-aggressive in recruiting other states, it appears that KU coach Turner Gill is not afraid to head to Nebraska in search of top-end talent.
Rivals.com reported Monday that Cole Fisher, a junior linebacker at Millard North High in Omaha, has been offered a scholarship by Kansas.
Fisher, 6-3, 190, told Rivals.com that he was somewhat surprised by the offer because he tore his ACL six weeks ago. As of Monday, KU and Iowa were the only schools who had offered Fisher, who runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.6-second range.
Fisher also told Rivals.com that he plans to attend KU’s Spring Game on April 24.
