Jayhawks rally, but Bears win finale, 2-1

? Kansas University rallied in the top of the seventh, but ultimately fell to Baylor, 2-1, in Big 12 Conference softball on Sunday.

Baylor (25-15 overall, 5-3 Big 12) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead and held KU hitless for the first three innings.

Kansas (21-19, 2-5) had a chance to tie in the seventh, when, with one out, Jessica Moppin walked, and Settlemier doubled to left-center to put two Jayhawks in scoring position.

BU’s Lisa Ferguson stepped in to pitch for Ashley Monceaux, and Ashley Goodrich pinch-ran for Settlemier at second.

Destiny Frankenstein hit a deep sacrifice fly to center that allowed Moppin to score and Goodrich to move to third. With two outs, Stevie Crisosto was hit by a pitch, but Nicole Washburn popped up to right to end the game.

KU won the series opener, 2-1 in 11 innings, on Saturday.

Settlemier (12-5) struck out four, allowed two hits and walked one in four innings . Kassie Humphreys fanned three batters, gave up two hits and walked one in two innings of relief.

Monceaux (4-3) struck out three, allowed two hits and walked one in 62â3 innings for the win, while Ferguson faced three batters (two fly outs, hit batter) in the seventh to get the save.

KU wraps up its five-game road stint Wednesday against Border Showdown rival Missouri. First pitch in Columbia, Mo., is 5 p.m.
