TULSA, OKLA. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team was in second place after the first two rounds Monday of the ORU Shootout. KU, the only team to shoot a round under 300 on the day, shot a first-round 312 and a second-round 298 at the Meadow Brook Country Club.
“Overall, I am pleased with our performance today,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said. “If we stick with our strategy, I think we can bring home a team and individual victory.”
Kansas trails Oral Roberts by one stroke after the host school posted a 609.
Kansas senior Chelsey Pryor leads the tournament by two strokes after posting back-to-back rounds of 74. Junior Jill Womble is tied for third at 78-74-152. Junior Amanda Costner and sophomore Annie Giangrosso each shot 80-75-155 and are tied for 14th. Senior Meredith Winkelmann is in 56th after an 82-84-166. Sophomore Sarah Kierl, playing as an individual, is in a tie for 66th after rounds of 90 and 80.
FORT COLLINS, COLO. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf squad is in seventh place after Monday’s second round at the 18-team Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic. KU shot 304 in the first round and 293 in the second. Junior Amanda Costner (143) is tied for sixth. The final round is today.
Austin, Texas ? Kansas University’s women’s golfers struggled Saturday, slipping from ninth place to a tie for last on the second day of the Big 12 Conference championship meet at Texas University Golf Course. KU’s golfers shot a 331 and shared last with Oklahoma at 642.
TUCSON, ARIZ. ? The Kansas University women’s golf squad placed ninth after Sunday’s final round at the 15-team Mountain View Collegiate.
The Jayhawks shot a third-round total of 296 and finished with a three-round total of 892. All three rounds were under 300, a first for KU this season.
“I saw a lot of improvement in this tournament,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said. “It was a good confidence-booster for us, and hopefully we can use this as a building block for the rest of the season.”
Freshman Annie Giangrosso was the top KU finisher, placing 15th after a 220. Sophomore Amanda Costner tied for 23rd at 222, junior Chelsey Pryor tied for 32nd at 224, junior Tiffany Woods carded a 233 to tie for 60th, and sophomore Jill Womble shot a 235 to tie for 64th.
Northwestern scored 870 to win the team title.
Kansas will travel April 9-10 to the Lady Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
College Station, Texas ? The Kansas University women’s golf squad shot a first-day score of 663, placing 14th in the 15-team field after the first two rounds of the Texas A&M “Mo”Morial Invitational.
“We are still knocking a little rust off from the winter time,” KU coach Erin O’Neil said.
Sophomore Amanda Costner shot a two-round total of 162 to tie for 41st place and is the top Jayhawk individually.
The final round is today.
Albuquerque, N.M. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team was in 14th place at the 17-team Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Monday at the New Mexico Championship Course. Georgia leads with 287 strokes. KU is 14th at 308.
Tiffany Woods leads KU with a first-round score of 75. She is tied for 28th. Other KU scores: Amanda Costner, 77, tied for 51st; Chelsey Pryor and Jill Womble, 78, tied for 59th; and Meredith Winkelmann, 82, tied for 84th.
The Kansas University women’s golf squad announced its end-of-season awards Sunday.
Sophomore Chelsey Pryor was honored as Top Jayhawk and earned the Jayhawk Scoring Award.
Other awards went to freshman Amanda Costner (Impact Player), senior Jennifer Bawanan (Academic) and freshman Sarah Kierl (Most Improved Player).

Windsor, Colo. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team placed seventh of 16 teams Tuesday at the Ptarmingan/Ram Fall Classic in Windsor, Colo. KU shot rounds of 303, 302 and 300, good for 905 strokes, on the 6,113 yard, par-72 Ptarmingan Golf Course. San Francisco won with 875 strokes. KU sophomore Chelsey Pryor tied for 14th place with a career-best score of 224. Sophomore Tiffany Woods placed 25th in a career-best 226 strokes.

Pinehurst, N.C. ? The Kansas University women’s golf team finished ninth out of 20 teams after Sunday’s final round of the Carolinas Classic. KU had a three-round score of 970 at the par-72 Pinehurst No. 8 course.
Freshman Chelsey Pryor was the top individual finisher for the Jayhawks, tying for 13th place at 233. Senior Tiffany Kruggel tied for 26th at 240.
Wichita ? The Kansas University women’s golf team finished tied for third at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a three-round season-best 924 at Willowbend Golf Club.
The Jayhawks tied with Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and finished 14 strokes back of second place UTEP. Kansas State won the 17-team tournament with a 903.
Senior Heather Rose shot a third-round 75, finishing seventh overall, while teammate Jennifer Bawanan was one place back. Her final-round 76 put her at 228.
Franklin, Ind. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team shot a final-round 310 and placed 11th at the 16-team Shoot-out at The Legends on Tuesday. KU finished with a three-round, season-best total of 925 strokes on the 6,122-yard, par-72 Legends Golf Club.
“As a team we just had our best tournament this season,” KU senior Tiffany Kruggel said. “We just need a tournament that four people have good scores at the same time. If that happens then we will start beating other teams.”
Kruggel led the Jayhawks with a 226, good for a tie for 17th place. Other KU scorers were: Heather Rose, tied for 26th, 230; Chelsey Pryor, tied for 51st, 236; Jennifer Bawanan, tied for 59th, 238; Kristy Straub, tied for 72nd, 244; and Tiffany Woods, 92nd, 260.
Kent State won the team title with 888 strokes.
Meredith Winkelmann, a senior at St. Louis St. Joseph’s Academy, has signed a national letter of intent with Kansas University’s women’s golf team.
Winkelmann was a four-year letter-winner and member of two state championship teams. She placed sixth at state individually as a senior.
Iowa City, Iowa ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team is in ninth place after carding a 36-hole score of 629 strokes on Saturday’s first day of the Hawkeye Invitational.
KU shot a 316 Saturday morning and 313 in the afternoon on the par-73 Finkbine Golf Course.
Sarah Mahoney led the Jayhawks and is tied for 21st-place with 154, while Ashely Bishop and sophomore Tiffany Kruggel are tied for 31st at 158. Jennifer Bawanan is tied for 35th at 159 and Heather Rose sits in 42nd-place at 161.
Michigan leads the team race with 601 strokes.
Bloomington, Ind. ? Kansas University’s women’s golf team shot a first-day 663 to stand in 11th place at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday at the 6,700-yard, par-72 Indiana University Golf Course. Sarah Mahoney leads the KU golfers with 164 strokes over the first 36 holes. Other KU scores: Ashely Bishop and Jennifer Bawanan, tied for 49th, 167; Tiffany Kruggel, tied for 54th, 168; and Heather Rose, tied for 71st, 177.

After starting their season with placements of last, last and second to last, KU Women’s golf team is starting to show some improvement.
They placed fourth out of eight teams after two rounds at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational. Granted, they dropped to fifth in the final round behind Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas State and Northern Iowa, but they did finish ahead of Wichita State, SW Missouri and UMKC.
The tournament in Manhattan concluded the Fall season for the team. They resume in February at the Islander Spring Invitational at Corpus Christie, Tex.
