Kansas University has announced two finalists in the search for a new dean of the School of Education, and may announce more soon.

The first announced finalists are Dianne E. Ashby of Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., and Jerry Bailey, KU’s interim dean of education.

The two will be on hand next week to meet with faculty, staff and students.

Other finalists will be named when a campus visit schedule is completed, said Susan B. Twombly, professor of teaching and leadership and chairwoman of the search committee.

Ashby is director of the Center for the Study of Educational Policy and chairwoman of the educational administration and foundations department at Illinois State.

Bailey, in addition being interim dean, is director of the KU Institute for Educational Research and Public Service.

Ashby will meet with the search committee and other personnel Feb. 4 to Feb. 6. Bailey’s meetings will be Feb. 6 to 8.

KU is searching for a replacement for Karen Gallagher, who resigned last year to become dean of the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.
