KU track grabs seven golds

? Kansas University athletes collected seven individual gold medals at the six-team Tiger Invitational track meet on Friday night at the Hearnes Center.

Scott Russell won the weight throw for the third straight time during the indoor season with a toss of 64-21/4.

Ryan Speers captured the shot put with a throw of 58-3 while Andy Morris won the pentathlon with a school-record 3,891 points and Jabari Wamble nabbed the 200-meter dash in a time of 48.71.

Three Kansas women also posted first-place finishes Jennifer Foster in the shot put (45-61/2), Jennie Wonder in the 60-meter hurdles (8.60) and Brandi Taylor in the triple jump (37-41/2).

“I saw a lot of strong efforts today,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “I think we are on our way as a team to being prepared for the conference meet.”
