KU swimmers top Southern Illinois

Kansas University toppled Southern Illinois, 135-97, in a women’s swimming and diving dual Saturday at Robinson Natatorium.

Sophomores Beth Schryer and Gwen Haley paced the Jayhawks, who won 11 of 13 events. Schryer won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:23.36) and 200 freestyle (1:55.65). Haley won the 200 butterfly (2:05.12), 500 freestyle (5:03.99) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.39).

Junior Carrie Kirkham won the 50 free (24.15) and 100 free (52.99). Sophomore Kristi Misejka swept the diving, capturing the one-meter with a 256.73 points and three-meter with 273.90 points.

In the men’s dual, KU lost, 138-99. Brian Soria (1,000 freestyle), Rob Kelly (200 backstroke), Matt Hanson (200 butterfly) won races for the Jayhawks.
