SPRINGFIELD, MO. ? Kansas University split a nonleague softball doubleheader Wednesday with Southwest Missouri State, winning the first game, 6-2, and losing the nightcap, 4-3.
In the opener, KU (20-17) capitalized on five SMS errors, resulting in three unearned runs. Megan Urquhart went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to spark the Jayhawk offense. Shelly Musser clubbed two doubles for KU in the win.
Kara Pierce was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 12-7.
In the second game, the Bears (7-21) scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The Jayhawks led 3-1 after four innings.
Shelly Musser went 2-for-3 with a double to lead KU in the second game. Amy Hulse doubled and Courtney Wright knocked in two runs for the Jayhawks.
