Strong second half lifts Tyshawn Taylor to top of rankings

1. Tyshawn Taylor: Still gave the ball to the other team too often, totaling five turnovers, but led the team in scoring with 24 points and made 4 of 6 three-point shots. He’s so quick he can get a shot whenever he wants. Played a great second half.

2. Thomas Robinson: Pitched in with 12 points and eight rebounds, his first non double-double of the season.

3. Conner Teahan: Did a nice job of keeping the ball moving and took the ball hard to the hoop when his three-pointers weren’t falling (1 for 6). Had 11 points and four rebounds.

4. Jeff Withey: He blocked just one shot and made just 1 of 5 field goals, but his lane presence caused players driving to the hoop to put the brakes on and sometimes travel.

5. Travis Releford: Had five points, three rebounds and three assists and contributed to the team’s strong defensive game.

6. Elijah Johnson: Made just 1 of 8 three-pointers and didn’t shake off his misses as well as he could have.

7. Kevin Young: Hustled for two points, six rebounds and a steal in five minutes.

8. Justin Wesley: Offensively challenged forward had three rebounds and a blocked shot, but also had four turnovers.

9. Naadir Tharpe: Played under control, but didn’t play particularly aggressively either.

10. Merv Lindsay: Blocked a shot in two minutes.

The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings

"Played a great second half." (ie.Tyshawn Taylor). Did any Jayhawk have a good first half? It was agonizing to watch the first 20 minutes of this game. Does make you wonder what HCBS told the guys during the halftime break.

Whatever it was, the same thing needs to be done to light a fire in the Jayhawk's fireplace and get them motivated to play all 40 minutes in upcoming games. Because Santa isn't far away and he won't be coming down the chimney. In other words, the Jayhawk's competitors know how bad they can be, and they aren't going to deliver any presents to the Jayhawks this year. KU is going to have to earn them.

On a different note, what happened to the usual pregame banter about what the Jayhawks needed to do against South Florida? Who the "Hawk to Rock" would be, Etc.?

Thomas noticeably was playing while ill. Was not his usual energetic self, esp. the first half. I have offered continous support for Tharpe until halftime of last night's contest. Either he, too, was affected by the crud, or it is becoming obvious that he is a long way from being counted upon as a major contributor this season. Dribbling into traffic and losing the ball as the first half clock ran down was a blight. I hope that Kevin Young can advance his complete game quickly. On the stat sheet, he can produce more in fewer minutes than any players but Taylor and Robinson. A very high energy player with a nose for the ball.

Someone's got to tell EJ to stop jacking up 3 pt shots if he's off the mark. 1 for 8 doesn't cut it. He has to drive or dish - those numbers are unacceptable & he hurts the team with them. I would've put him at no. 10.

Yes Oh Perfect Know it All. Because every coach in the nation will tell you the best way to get a shooter out of a shooting slump is to tell him to stop shooting. heavy sarcasm dingus.

If you've ever played the game, you would know that if you're missing from the outside, you start taking shots closer in or driving it to the hoop otherwise you hurt your team. Guess who sat on the bench most of the second half? Self knew he was not helping things.

That's what makes basketball exciting. You never know if you're going to make it and hence if you're a shooter you gotta keep shooting.

I like Kevin Young, but he is the newcomer that has looked most overmatched at times (between him, Tharpe and Wesley). I hope he progresses because we will need him, but its telling that he hasn't been getting minutes when the games have been close.

Taylor played better and shot well, but it was still Robinson that was making key baskets when the game was close. He got that late run started with some tough work around the rim. He also had 4 steals, many of them also came when the game was close and we needed to make a play. Add two blocked shots and I think Mr. Zero gets the nod by a shallow margin over Taylor in a runaway 1 2 finish.
