Kansas University on Thursday reached out to high-scoring Delaware sophomore Kory Holden, CBS analyst Jeff Borzello reports. Holden, a 6-2, 180-pound point guard from Salisbury, Md., averaged 17.7 points (off 39.4 percent shooting) with 126 assists against 88 turnovers for Delaware (7-23). He hit 69 of 178 threes for 38.8 percent. He would have to sit out next season in accordance with transfer rules. Maryland, Miami, South Carolina, USC, Seton Hall, Arizona and Virginia Tech reportedly are interested.

It was a joke, folks: Terrance Ferguson, a 6-5 senior shooting guard from Dallas Advanced Prep, said on Twitter he’d announce his college choice at 8 p.m. Friday. It turned out to be an April Fool’s joke on those who follow recruiting. No decision yet. Analysts believe Arizona leads KU, Baylor, Maryland and North Carolina State.

National champs: KU’s men’s basketball managers beat Michigan State, 44-42, in Friday’s first-ever managers national title game in Houston. Iowa State and Tennessee also competed. KU beat Iowa State, 47-25, in the Final Four semifinals.

So who did the laundry and picked up after the Managers, the losing team's managers?

This is actually an accomplishment that needs to be taken advantage of for bragging rights socially.

i m curios on why we would offer a scholorship before Ferguson Jackson.....Maker or any other major recruit has decided......Hes another guard which we will need ......but with Selden and Greene gone and possibly Svi ......i guess there is a need....Mason and Graham and Vick who waited for his turn on second thought cant wait either......boy next year will be ineresting

David Kemp 5 years, 8 months ago

Pretty obvious! Mason graduates next year and Holden who is proven has to sit out a year. I would give a scholarship on that investment every day.

Dirk Medema 5 years, 8 months ago

Absolutely! We definitely would need at least 1 more guard next year. To get a collegiately proven guard that you could work with for a year while providing great practice competition. Man, sign me up twice.

There are still 3 or 4 spots for this year, and they'll likely be open again next year when Jackson, .... leave early. It would be fabulous to be able to have more Mason/Graham/Vicks (diamonds in the rough) to be with the team for multiple years, and complement the elites 1-n-done.

The same thing goes for Maker. E's the elite 1-n-done that will complement nicely the multi-year development players (Lucas, Bragg, Coleby, ...)

And remember, he promised that he won't commit until he knows there won't be eligibility issues. I wouldn't be surprised if he is still unofficial until August or September. Seems that B Rush and someone else were that way also, yes.

Marius Rowlanski 5 years, 8 months ago

Nothing against Holden - but the CCA isn't exactly known for its excellence in basketball. If Self is satisfied then maybe he can play against much better competition but don't expect him to be putting up the same numbers in the BIG 12.

Maybe sitting out a year would be a positive.[

Henry Joseph Hofmeister 5 years, 8 months ago

can you trust someone in a game that treats recruitment to one of the top teams in the country like an april fools joke?

Jay Scott 5 years, 8 months ago

He would be a great pickup. In the Kansas offense he'd get better looks and be a 40% + three point shooter for sure.

Mallory Briggans 5 years, 8 months ago

I looked at his stats .....39% field goal shooting not from 3 point range which he shoots 38% 126 assists ..........88 turnovers...........last years stats .......He has proven that he cant shoot all that well........I ve never seen this guy play but those numbers don't blow me out the water either . But there seems to be interest from a few major schools . Maybe he s tired of losing and that's the reason for his transfer,.....who knows .

Jay Scott 5 years, 8 months ago

38% from 3 on a bad team is excellent.

Freddie Garza 5 years, 8 months ago

He had to be a volume shooter for Delaware because he's the most talented offensive player that they had. When you look at 38% in the context for which he was used...that's pretty good.

At KU, he wouldn't be relied upon to shoot nearly as much, so more than likely you would see his percentages go up just because of the type of shots that he would be taking.

Todd Hudnall 5 years, 8 months ago

Many schools have reached out to Holden. I read he is considered the top transfer in the country. Was a three star high school player who has been a star player for a weak Delaware team. As David Kemp said, with Mason graduating next year, Holden would be a great fit after sitting a year. It would be a good pick up for the Jayhawks.

Always need to be thinking down the road.

Harlan Hobbs 5 years, 8 months ago

Correct, Steve. Hopefully, we will see the fruits of this philosophy next year with Dwight Coleby. If he is completely healthy, he should be a nice addition to Landen, Carlton, and the freshmen big man recruits.

If there are no more defections, we will be fine. Then, if we land Josh Jackson, we will again be a strong candidate for the Final Four, especially with such an experienced and talented backcourt of Frank and Devonte. As Mallory says, it should be an interesting ride.

Tony Bandle 5 years, 8 months ago

If I recall Josh's comments, he wants a coach who will push him, not kiss his butt and help him maximize his talents for his time in school. Sounds to me like he could use the current Coach Of the Year!!

Anybody out there have a similar opinion?

Holden redshirts, Frank graduates, Devonte a senior while Holden a junior, Holden takes over as a senior....the wheel keeps a spinnin".

Edward Daub 5 years, 8 months ago

Delaware fired their head coach, maybe that is why Holden is transferring.

Very interesting that Bill Self is reaching out to a former "Blue Hen"!

If he opts for Kansas, we can all do a chicken dance.

Steve Macy 5 years, 8 months ago

Another name that I have heard, Deshawn Corprew, a 4 star recruit. I read that Coach Self and staff are interested. He seems to be a late riser in the rankings. 6'5" small forward/off guard.

The late spring signings are making a mockery of the recruiting process. Josh Jackson and Ferguson especially . These guys are now taking a page out of the Lebron James " THE ANNOUNCEMENT " book . The coaches woo these players as well as the other elite stars to become a part of their program but that's part of the process ....and I understand waiting to see who goes and who stays at the programs on your list , but as a player If you already " MADE YOUR DECSION " then announce it ......But no it has to be staged and the family has to be together and all the hype that goes with " YOUR DECISION " .......I m sure the other schools have the same players on their team just like many of the KU fans . Ferguson announced yesterday that he made a decision ......only to say it was just an April fools joke. These kids want to player poker with the coaches other players and schools ,playing the waiting game . Teams are trying to fill their rosters as well as get the best players available to fill a need. Bolden was leaning towards Kansas , but he waited and waited and Azebuike commited which made Bolden rethink his commitment . Now he has Duke Kentucky ......................and T.C.U. T.C.U.......... These coaches are being hamstrung waiting on this guy or that guy because the late signings what to play basketball poker. And of course ESPN doesn't help with the made for T.V. event........I know this may be a life changing event choosing a school .....but again if you made a decision ...announce it so we can either embrace and welcome you or get over you and focus on some players who want to be at KU. Isnt ironic the same players that drag on their college choice................................................................................are the same ones to declare for the draft a day after their season is over . Don't get me wrong wheather its a OAD or a 3 or 4 year player I just want someone to help KU win a N.C. winning the BIG 12 is nice but the bigger prize would the ultimate goal.

Jay Scott 5 years, 8 months ago

Why wouldn't players want to wait until rosters and coaching staffs stabilize? Would you sign at a school until you knew who else was on the team, particularly at your position and who would be coaching it?

With all due respect, how does your comment say so little and yet ramble so long?

Chris Knoop 5 years, 8 months ago

What she stated, TWICE, was that if you've already MADE your decision, then announce it.

Steve Macy 5 years, 8 months ago

Coach Self is paid well to handle the stress, you don't need to. RCJH, it will be fine.

Mallory Briggans 5 years, 8 months ago

sorry steve i seemed to ramble........coaches get paid alot to handle the stress .......but they get fired when teams have a losing culture.......The blue blood programs have the pick of the litter .....but all ive seem this week are about what players would look good in a KU uniform......so you think it ok to string schools along.....you missed my point.......I along with many others feel the recruits want to be the center of attention and speculation.......IF YOU HAVE A FIRM CHOICE WHO ARE YOU HELPING......waiting for a team to stablilize is mute point if you know where you are going... The early season commits that signed last fall didnt have to wait for their choice to stablize they got it out of the way to focus on their freshman year......but of course im rambling..........

Jay Scott 5 years, 8 months ago

The way to make up for your pointless rambling wasn't to add to it.

Steve Macy 5 years, 8 months ago

They're kids dealing with immature brains, raging hormones, and the NCAA, it is amazing the best, those that really don't care about college, some do and some don't, don't go overseas more often than they do. RCJH, it will be fine, and will be better if Coach Self lands another wing or two, and throw a post in for good luck. I'm going to watch a variety of other sports and not dwell on the "what ifs' too much, or the "maybe he thinks we're the cutest suitor". Maybe it's because I realize that boys in shorts are not the barometer of my sanity, or I'm just getting old. Probably both.

John Randall 5 years, 8 months ago

Ramblings on a moot point ought to be muted.

Mallory Briggans 5 years, 8 months ago

lol I m not one go back and forth with ANYONE on this site so I wont with you , you have your opinion and you made it nuff said. thank you for your insight .

Mallory Briggans 5 years, 8 months ago

Mr Macy I agree with everything you say We are in a new day . Players are put in the spotlight at a younger age now and some have a sense of entitlement because that are constantly reminded how great they are , The game of basketball is always evolving , I m old enough to remember when freshmen were not eligible to play ,and the dreaded 4 corners offense, The game before the shot clock or 3 point line. Dunking was outlawed at one time during the Lew Alcindor days at UCLA. Social media ,the AAU circuit recruiting websites have change the dynamic of players actions and interactions with other players trying to recruit each other to play together, Winning a championship with some is not as important as getting to the next level or for that even attending classes because they know they are a OAD ,,,,Ben Simmons comes to mind . As far as KU I have the confidence in Coach Self will have another good team assembled come November wheather it someone well known or a player flying under radar Coach Self will get it done. I read something the other day about a winning culture....well KU has that and will continue on that despite the changing climate of popular culture Coaches adapt and adjust and Self has continued to do that during his tenure as coach at KU his record speaks for itself

Mick Allen 5 years, 8 months ago

Mallory, I think that in addition to the increased role of the AAU circuit, the prevalence of the "family friend", a/k/a mentor,a/k/a guardian and their influence, and the unbelievable courting of these young athletes in the print and electronic media it is not hard to understand why they become "drama queens" wanting the brightest light shown on their abbreviated moments of fame and the notoriety that follows. Ferguson and Jackson, by delaying their official commitments, even as both maintain they have decided which schools they will attend, so that their acclaim will continue, is also a reflection of the "instant gratification" mind set of their generation, athletes and non-athletes a like.

Harlan Hobbs 5 years, 8 months ago

In answer to your question, Tony, "yes". From the quotes that I have read, I get the vibes that Josh will pick KU, notwithstanding that there is a video out there that seems to infer that he will pick Arizona.

I understand that he and Terrance Ferguson have stated that they would like to play at the same school. If that is the case, I can't seem them signing with U of A when they have already recruited another McD's player, Kobe Simmons, at that position. The same is true with Michigan State, who has recruited a young man named Bridges, another McD's All-American.

With the loss of Wayne Selden, there is a spot sitting there for Josh Jackson. However, if he confounds me and picks someone else, I'll be very glad to watch Svi become more of a factor, assuming of course that he returns.

Lastly, I agree with you, Mallory, that if a player has made his decision, go ahead and announce it. All the drama doesn't impress me, or the vast majority of people I believe.

Mallory Briggans 5 years, 8 months ago

Thank you Harlan getting the roster together the sooner the better ......Speaking of Sooners if they would have won the national championship that would have been a bitter pill to swallow ..........We would have to hear how we won the BIG 12 TITLE and BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP ......but they won the National Championship .....not what I want to hear from my friends from OU
