Kansas senior Jeff Withey has been named honorable mention for the 2012-13 Associated Press preseason All-America Team released Monday.
The AP preseason team consisted of five first-team members and 17 honorable mention selections.
A 7-foot center from San Diego, Withey was recently selected to the All-Big 12 preseason team by the conference coaches. He was the 2012 Big 12 defensive player of the year last season after setting the Big 12 single-season blocks record with 140.
Withey, who also was a third-team All-Big 12 selection a year ago, averaged 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds for Kansas and shot a team-best 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.
KU opens exhibition play with a 7 p.m. home game Tuesday against Emporia State.

Rock Chalk! Here is to Withey getting mad and becoming the Sultan of Swat.

Wait, I thought being a "game-changer" guaranteed national POY awards?

What's all the hype with Cody Zeller of Indiana? Withey can be Zeller's equal or better, with another year of great improvement.

Um, no...you've obviously never seen Zeller play

Jeff just proved he can play down to D2.

Jeff had a triple double this time last year. He just needs to adjust to being the focus of the defense with Robinson gone.

Slow start, but a small sample size.

Hope they don't take it away after the Stink Bomb he laid down tonight. What a joke!

Not sure what he needs more for motivation, but he was in low gear while in Europe and looked lethargic last night. KU played better with him on the bench.

Why play hard in an exhibition game? Withey is too injury prone to go full speed in an exhibition game. EJ and Withey must be the inside outside leadership that TT and TRob were last year.
