Kansas University third baseman Tony Thompson was honored as a third-team All-American on Thursday by Louisville Slugger. He becomes the 14th Jayhawk to be selected as an All-American and the first since Don Czyz in 2006.

Thompson, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., has hit a school-record 19 home runs this season to go with a .374 average. He leads the Big 12 in homers, RBIs (78), total bases (138) and slugging percentage (.730). He also has a current 16-game hitting streak.

Seventy-seven players were honored by Louisville Slugger. San Diego State pitcher Stephen Strasburg was selected as Player of the Year.

KU opens play in the NCAA Tournament at 1 p.m. Friday against No. 15 Coastal Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

I can see why they might use an older picture of the athletes, (better than nothing) but I guess it's asking too much for them to update the stats under the pictures. LOL

Congrats Tony!

It would be great if KU Sports could have a link to player stats throughout the season. Avg., HR's, RBI's, Runs, Slugging, OBP, etc....

Just a thought for next season when we continue to due well throughout the year.
